N100047,  “The #2 Pilot Line Assembly Research Car”, was delivered on June 13, 1966 from Fisher Body as coach #DD78D.  Like all F-Body Pilot Prototypes at Norwood, it started its hand built assembly in consecutive VIN number order as the forty-seventh build of the engineering study.  One of four on Fleet and Special Order # 5A-20 made by Manufacturing-Pilot Line, it carried model # 12637.  This gold on gold coupe was the thirty-fifth Camaro coupe ever built.  With a 327 cubic-inch power plant and a power-glide automatic transmission, its lack of presence in General Motors photo shoots make this an elusive piece of early Camaro history.  It was required to be received by F.R. Caffrey at General Motors Assembly Research at an unknown date.   This build was ordered under the same fleet and special order # as the two plant manager cars.  Our research and interviews show that these two builds were not used for research as their titles imply.  Instead, they were used as promotional vehicles by the assembly research managers.  Their late build sequence and lack of urgency at their destination substantiates our research.  In fact, the majority of all research for this engineering study was conducted on site at Norwood.  This differentiates these builds from other Pilot Prototype programs.  NCRS certificates show #47 being returned to Corporate, Zone 0 and it thought to have been used as a company promotional vehicle shortly thereafter.   Extensive and exhaustive history searches have gleaned no documented ownership history.  Current whereabouts and existence is unknown as of 3-1-2015.
